On October 22, 2011 over 1,200 competitors competed at the 2011 California Open Taekwondo Championship at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. We had 22 students representing our Academy of which they brought home 13 Gold, 11 Silver and 9 Bronze medals in the poomsae and kyroogi events. Congratulations to all the students and thanks to the parents and supporters. Special thanks to all coaches: Sr. Master Perry Okimoto, Instructor: Rodney Viloria, Emmy Naeole, Brendan Viloria, and Assistant Jenae Javier. Also to Sr. Master Ron Cabebe, who conducted an outstanding announcement job for the entire tournament. 22 students from our academy are in San Jose, CA competing in forms and sparring. Masters Ron Cabebe and Mike Lim and Chief Instructor Andre Echave are with them. Competition has been heavy with some divisions with as much as 54 competitors.
On the first day of competition, Elijah Gonzales received a Bronze medal in forms. Rayce Agura and Andrea Zamora both got Bronze medals in sparring. Jerome Quimpo received a Silver medal in sparring. On the second day of competition, Jacqueline Blatt and Kymberlee Cabebe made it all the way to the quarter finals. On the third day, Joshua Mojica got a Bronze medal in forms and a Bronze medal in sparring. Jenae Javier received a Silver medal in sparring. Bethany Agura and Blaze Villalon both got Gold medals in sparring.
On our last day of competition, Erica Gonzales got a Gold medal in forms, Luis Ramos and Fitzgerald Pate both receiving Bronze medals in sparring.
