COMPETITION POOMSAE

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The World Taekwondo Federation has developed an International Poomsae competition format that is used in the WTF World Poomsae Championships. The competition consists of Individual, Pairs and Team divisions.

The Method of Competition starts with Preliminaries: After performing one (1) of the four (4) Poomsae in the 1st compulsory Poomsae predetermined by the tournament committee, the top 50 percent of participants will be qualified for the next round. Final Selection: The top 50 percent of participants would be required to perform one (1) of the four (4) Poomsae in the 2nd compulsory Poomsae predetermined by the tournament committee. The top eight (8) of each category (individuals, pairs and teams) will be selected according to the results of their 2nd performance. Final: The top eight (8) of each category would be required to perform two (2) of the remaining three (3) Poomsae in the 2nd compulsory Poomsae predetermined by the tournament committee. The ranking of the top three (3) (Gold, Silver, Bronze medalist) of each category will be decided by the results of their performance. Note: The color belt & 6 13 year old black belt divisions will one do one (1) of the remaining Poomsae from the 2nd compulsory list in the final round.

BLACK BELTS - World-Class and Elite**
Junior Division: 14 - 18 years old - individual male & individual female
1st Compulsory Poomsae: Taeguek 4, 5, 6, 7
2nd Compulsory Poomsae: Taeguek 8, Koryo, Keumgang, Taeback

1st & 2nd Senior Division: 19 - 30 & 31 - 40 years old - individual male & individual female
1st Compulsory Poomsae: Taeguek 6, 7, 8, Koryo
2nd Compulsory Poomsae: Keumgang, Taeback, Pyonwon, Shipjin

1st Masters Division: 41 - 50 years old - individual male & individual female
1st Compulsory Poomsae: Taeguek 8, Koryo, Keumgang, Taeback
2nd Compulsory Poomsae: Pyonwon, Shipjin, Jitae, Chonkwon

2nd Masters Division: 51+ years old - individual male & individual female
1st Compulsory Poomsae: Koryo, Keumgang, Taeback, Pyonwon
2nd Compulsory Poomsae: Shipjin, Jitae, Chonkwon, Hansu

1st Team Division: 14 - 35 years old (3 males or 3 females)
1st Compulsory Poomsae: Taeguek 6, 7, 8, Koryo
2nd Compulsory Poomsae: Keumgang, Taeback, Pyonwon, Shipjin

2nd Team Division: 36+ years old (3 males or 3 females)
1st Compulsory Poomsae: Taeguek 8, Koryo, Keumgang, Taeback
2nd Compulsory Poomsae: Pyonwon, Shipjin, Jitae, Chonkwon

1st Pairs Division: 14 - 35 years old (1 male & 1 female)

2nd Pairs Division: 36+ years old (1 male & 1 female)

BLACK BELTS - Ages 6 - 13 years old

Ages Divisions Pairs: 6 - 13 years old (2 males; 2 females or 1 male & 1 female)

COLOR BELTS - Green (gup 6 & 5), Blue (gup 4 & 3) and Red (gup 2 & 1) combined
Ages Divisions Individual: 6 - 9 years old; 10 - 13 years old: 14 - 18 years old; 19 - 35 years old; 36+ years old
Ages Divisions Team: 6 - 13 years old: 14 - 35 years old; 36+ years old (3 males; 3 females; 2 males & 1 female or 2 females & 1 male)
Ages Divisions Pairs: 6 - 13 years old: 14 - 35 years old; 36+ years old (2 males; 2 females or 1 male & 1 female)

Competition Poomsae divisions are based on AGE only; RANK and WEIGHT is not a consideration.
